How to get on with their daughters has been bothering many mothers. Below are four texts from four women reflecting to an article written by Susan.
Anna:
My husband and I both read this article and we think it is moving, thoughtful, and the ending is wonderful. People cannot deny( 否认) that envy is a natural emotion between children and parents. You have written what I am sure most mothers feel, but are too scared to admit.
Clare:
When I realized my daughter had become a young woman, I didn’t have any feeling of envy. On the contrary, I felt protective towards her because it is too natural for young girls to meet men. So I didn’t envy her. Instead, I offered her advice on things like wearing fancy clothes which men saw as charming, and hoped she enjoyed her life.
Lucy:
As the mother of two girls, I was moved to tears by your article, because it reflected so many of my own feelings. I don't think I should feel ashamed if I admit that I can't get on well with my two daughters. But I love the way you have put into words what so many mums feel at this stage.
Beth:
There is some form of envy(忌妒) between mother and daughter. I remember suspecting that my mother envied me. I understood that she was not happy with my father and the good relationship between myself and him. The strange thing is that years later my own daughter and her father have a good relationship with each other and I can feel envy stealing in.

Poverty( 贫穷)has been troubling the world. In 2016, the number of hungry people in the world reached one billion for the first time. It's difficult not to be shocked by the fact that more than one in seven people in the world do not have enough to eat.
The UN figures that almost two thirds of the world's hungry people are in Asia, which is of course the world's most populous continent. More than a quarter are in
sub-Saharan Africa. Although this place has a much lower population than Asia, it has the highest percentage of hungry people. Almost all of the rest are in Latin America, North Africa and the Caribbean.
There are many reasons for world hunger. They include wars, droughts, floods ,and the over use arm land. All these factors affect food production. Many people also blame greedy businessmen for pushing up the prices of basic foods in the global market. In fact, many people are starving just because they’re poor. Therefore, the most important reason, quite simply, is poverty. If we can’t pull out this root, we’ll never be able solve food shortage.
Although many people make the obvious point that there would be less hunger if the global population were smaller, few people would argue that there is not enough food to go around. The basic problem seems to be not a lack of food, but its distribution. In the last 50 years, global food production has risen even more quickly than the global population.
There are many areas of the world in which people generally have more than enough food. In those places, being overweight is a far bigger problem than hunger. The answer to world hunger, therefore, may be a balanced food distribution around the whole world. Everyone will have enough to eat, but not overeat.
24.Which continent has the highest rate of hungry people?
A.Asia. B. Africa. C. America. D. Europe.
25.The underlined word in the 3nd paragraph most probably means .
A.the fact of having many droughts
B.the reason for suffering many floods
C.the state of being extremely poor
D.bad luck brought by wars
26.According to the last paragraph, results in the poverty.
A.not enough production
B.slow growth of food
C.consuming too muchfood
D.imbalance of distribution
27.Maybe the author would write about if there were a sixth paragraph.
A.how to make food distribution balanced
B.when to get rid of world hunger thoroughly
C.who is to blame for the world hunger
D.what to do to help the hungry people

Whenever I hear a recording of John Denver singing "Sunshine on My Shoulders ", I find myself smiling, drawn to a love of sun and outdoors I’ve had for years as a Michigan native, walking barefoot to the lake, playing shirtless in the sunlight, and breathing fresh air feel good. As a doctor I can tell you they are also good for your heart.
Studies have found higher rates of high blood pressure among people with the lowest. One reason may be due to nitric oxide(一氧化氮), a gas whose function is activated when your skin is exposed to the sun’s rays. It reduces both heart attack and stroke risks. Vitamin D, which sunlight helps your body produce, is also linked to better health. So walk outdoors for 15 to 30 minutes daily.
In Japan, walking through forests to keep healthy has become a popular practice. Apparently they want to enjoy the fresh air. But research on 280 volunteers there found that people had a reduced heart rate, and lower blood pressure when they walked through a forest than when they spent time in an urban area.
One of the consequences of modern society is that rarely is our body in direct contact with the ground. The earth has an electrical current. Direct contact with it may be stabilizing force for good health. Although“ earthing”or“ grounding” is considered alternative by mainstream medicine, research shows that the practice seems to be able to reduce heart disease risk.
So, walk around barefoot wherever possible, let your backyard grass tickle your feet, and dig your toes into sandy beaches.

A.show the author likes the song very much

Many people have difficulty in getting up in the morning. This might be called laziness, but Dr. Kleitman has a new explanation. He has proved that everyone has a daily energy cycle.
During the hours when you work, you may say that you’re "hot" .That’s true. The time of day when you feel most energetic is when your cycle of body temperature is at its peak( 顶峰). For some people the peak comes during the morning. For others it comes in the afternoon or evening. No one has discovered
why this is so, but it leads to such familiar words as: “Get up, John! you'll be late for work again! ” The possible explanation to the trouble is that John is at his temperature-and-energy peak in the evening. Much family quarrelling ends when husbands and wives realize what these energy cyclesmean, and which cycle each member of the family has.
You can't change your energy cycle, but you can learn to make your life fit it better. Habit can help, Dr. Kleitman believes. Maybe you're sleepy in the evening but feel you must stay up late anyway. If so, staying up later than you want to may counteract your cycle in some way. If our energy is low in the morning but youhave an important job to do early in the day, rise before your usual hour. This won’t change your cycle, but you’ll get steam and work better at your low point.
Get off to a slow start which saves your energy. Get up with a comfortable yawn and stretch. Sit on the edge of the bed for a minute before putting your feet on the floor. Avoid the troublesome search for clean clothes by laying them out the night before.
32.Dr. Kleitman explains that a person is difficult to get up in the morning probably because of .
A.his own laziness B. his own energy cycle
C. his own habit D. his bad rest at night
33.According to the passage, people's energy peak may come .
A.in the morning B. in the evening
C. in the afternoon D. at different ho
34.What does the underlined word “it” in the third paragraph refer to?
A.Life. B. Good habit

A.do your work at the energy peak
B.manage to control your temper
C.work at the bottom of energy cycle
D.manage to keep you clean all day
